An Interview With: Tate Blanchard Of Custom Isolation Product's

Custom Isolation Product’s Ultrasonic Acrylic Racks, Stands, and Cones. Custom Isolation Product’s
custom designs acrylic racks, stands and cones that are pleasing to the eyes, and also, makes your audio
equipment even more pleasing to the ear. Why is that? Well, vibration negatively affects your home audio
equipment. Custom Isolation’s goal is to isolate the equipment from the unwanted vibrations; either from
the surroundings or from the audio equipment itself. Acrylic is an excellent material for vibration control.
Because of its irregular molecular structure it will not resonate like glass, yet it is eight times stronger.
Recently, we questioned the owner and creator of this fine line of products – Tate Blanchard - to get the low-
down on what led him to design these products, and why he got into the Home Audio Biz:
DG: Tate, what got you interested in Home Audio and Home Audio Furniture?
TATE: I like to think that it all started in 1980, when I built my first rack to house some of my own equipment
too large to fit in the available racks at the time. After many years of research and listening to different shelf
media, I selected the Acrylic shelf as my main media with Maple wood as customer preference.
DG: And, what moved you to get into the business of custom designing acrylic racks, stands, and cones?
TATE: The fact that high-end racks are so very expensive and my goal is to provide a quality rack built with
materials designed to dampen the vibration effect at a more reasonable price.
DG: That is one reason we love your products. Not only are they designed to fit the needs of each
customer, but they are really reasonably priced. What are some aspects of your product that you are proud
of or excited about?
TATE: The introduction of the 2” thickness acrylic shelves has brought on new levels of performance in
vibration reduction. Also by customer demand a pair of platforms in 4” thick acrylic. The ultimate in mass
loading with acrylic. Also, I am testing a ball-interface as higher level of drainage in racks columns and feet.
DG: Tate, there is a lot of competition in the world of audio, what would you say makes Custom Isolations
Products stand out?
TATE: Very few companies will build a rack to the customers exacting requirements. The Ultrasonic racks
can be customized in size, color, and material choices.
