SOUNDSPLINTER - Ignition Series RL-I10
10" Audiophile Component Bass Subwoofer
Welcome to the home of SoundSplinter's RL-i Ignition Series
subwoofers. These drivers have been designed as an economical
solution for those seeking audiophile-quality bass response, utilizing
low to moderate power levels, for either the home or car audio
environment where space is at a premium. Rare for small drivers, the
RL-i makes use of a high-excursion design engineered for maximum
throw and linearity. Featuring thick gap-plates, a solid steel t-yolk,
custom cast aluminum basket, NBR rubber surround, aluminum
shorting ring to reduce distortion, gold plated spring-action terminals,
including a stiff anodized spun aluminum cone heat sinked to a 2"
diameter voice-coil in addition to woven lead wires to eliminate the
possibility of annoying and potentially harmful tinsel lead slap.
Quite probably one of the best 10" drivers available on the market
today, the RL-i10 is a versatile subwoofer suitable for almost any
application. Small enough to fit into tight spots for car audio, yet
powerful enough to pump a small to medium sized home theater full
of clean and accurate bass response. This woofer will provide for
impressive output coupled with extremely low higher-order harmonic
distortion, making for a crisp sound that will be music to your ears!
High-Force Motor: Utilizing the b = (BL)2/Re ratio in our design for the
motor, we have been able to refine the winding width of our voicecoil
in relation to the gap height which has resulted in a motor that yields
50% more force than the typical design approach. b is a true
representation of force versus excursion, providing much greater use
than the Xmax Thiel-Small parameters traditionally used to evaluate
woofers.
High Excursion Surround: The NBR rubber surrounding material
connecting our aluminum cone to its basket has been engineered
using non-linear finite element software. This has provided for an
incredibly stable, symmetrical surround that does not cavitate, even
under high internal enclosure pressures. The result? Low distortion
and high reliability.
Unique Spider Technology: Our spider technology was also designed
with non-linear finite element software, allowing for high performance,
symmetrical, and reliable spiders. We know that high excursion has
caused conventional tinsel leads to slap the cone or spider at modal
frequencies, creating unpleasant sound and physically damaging the
driver. To null this effect, our tinsels are woven discretely into our
spider.
Symmetrical Magnetic Field: Our large high-energy ceramic magnets,
designed with the aid of special software has maximized productive
magnetism while minimizing the necessary amount of steel and mass
used. The extraordinary symmetry of the magnetic field above and
below the gap-plate ensures very low distortion.
High Power Voicecoil: In order to provide force on the cone
throughout full excursion of our drivers, we know that the voicecoils
used must be quite long. A long voicecoil also has a relatively long
thermal time constant which ensures very high power handling
capability.
These woofers offer a very high (BL)²/Re of 70 in addition to a
relatively low Qt value, performing best in small sealed enclosures in
the car audio arena or larger sealed enclosures for home audio. The
motor topology used in the creation of these drivers has been hailed
as an industry leader in extremely low distortion, especially at very
high powered low frequencies. It is also considered to have an
extended top end for a subwoofer, providing for an extremely smooth
transition to a midbass driver.
All RL-i series drivers feature thick gap-plates, copper shorting rings to
reduce intermodulation distortion, gold plated spring action terminals,
a stiff aluminum cone doubling up as a giant heat sink, and woven
lead wires for a higher quality product. Renowned for outstanding
performance and low distortion, the these drivers are wonderful for
use in any application requiring clean and accurate bass.
